Established in 2009, thecricketgroundshop.co.uk was born of a passion to provide the very best solutions to cricket clubs, whether they play at grass-roots or professional level.

The team behind the store, total-play Ltd, shares years of experience not only in the design, construction and maintenance of natural and non-turf cricket pitches; but in the development of class-leading products for the cricket ground.

The CGS story begins when, as the youngest Head Groundsman on the circuit at Northamptonshire CC, former cricketer David Bates spotted a gap in the market for a cricket ground cover that was truly breathable. While available flat sheets were waterproof, long-term use compromised plant health and surface quality, as they failed to allow vapour to escape and the plant to breathe.

When David set up his turf management consultancy business, he sought out specialist partners in the field of materials science to develop a ground-breaking solution that would not only be 100% waterproof, but that would allow the grass plant to breathe and the Climate Cover System was born.

That was back in 2001. As the Climate Cover System went on to prove itself at every level, from club cricket to professional, David and his team developed a full range of covers based on the same ethos; including the Total Growth Cover propagation & frost protection system, anti-vandalism covers, a flat rain sheet and hybrid cricket pitch covers; providing something to suit every need and budget.

Meanwhile, David was developing a new non-turf cricket pitch to offer a performance closer to that of natural turf than any currently on the market. In 2007, he launched total-play Ltd, specialising in the design, installation and maintenance of natural and non-turf cricket pitches.

The first company to be awarded the ECB's Code of Practice Installer for NTP's status, shortly afterwards its flagship match and practice non-turf system, tp365, was awarded ECB approval. Over the past six years, the total-play NTP range has grown to offer a host of solutions designed to meet different needs and budgets, with total-play one of the most respected names in cricket pitch design and construction.

With such a host of class-leading products under its belt, the natural progression for total-play was to launch an online store that would act as the exclusive online outlet for both its Climate Cover range of ground covers and the total-play range of non-turf pitch systems.
